Ethel R. Anderson Scholarship

Scholarship Criteria:

At the time of the award, eligible student recipients shall be enrolled as full-time students at the University of Northwestern. Recipients should represent and demonstrate the high ideals of the Mission, Vision, and Values of the University of Northwestern and demonstrate financial need.

Scholarship Story:

The Ethel R. Anderson Scholarship was established in 1996 through a gift from the estate of Ethel R. Anderson. A faithful supporter of the University of Northwestern and a beloved member of Edina Covenant Church, Ethel chose to invest in future generations of students through a lasting scholarship that continues to impact lives today.

Following Ethel's passing on January 5th, 1996, her estate designated a portion of its assets to the University of Northwestern for the creation of a scholarship fund. In communicating this gift to the University, Eugene and Judith Anderson, trustees of Ethel's trust, expressed their appreciation for the role Northwestern had played in the lives of students and shared Ethel's desire to support the institution's mission.

Eugene and Judith shared, “We are pleased that Ethel has blessed Northwestern with this gift from her estate. Northwestern has been a real blessing to students. She enjoyed her association with staff from the college and the various dinners.”

Ethel’s decision to include the University of Northwestern in her estate plans reflects a commitment to Christian higher education and a desire to help students pursue their educational goals in an environment centered on faith and learning.

Through this scholarship, Ethel's legacy lives on in the lives of students who receive financial assistance as they prepare for their future callings. Her gift serves as a reminder that even a single act of generosity can create opportunities that extend far beyond one lifetime.
